Our August newsletter explores the community’s history, daily prayer, and preparations to welcome pilgrims for the monastery’s celebration of St. Augustine.

Our August 2026 newsletter looks back on July’s preparations for the monastery’s celebration of St. Augustine and offers a closer introduction to our monastic family, its history, and its mission.
This issue traces the community’s beginnings on Peaks Island in Portland, Maine, and its move to DeLand, Florida, in June 2004. It describes a life shaped by the Rule of St. Augustine, contemplative prayer, liturgical worship, monastic work, and hospitality.
At the heart of that life are the Mass, the Liturgy of the Hours, prayerful reading of Scripture, and intercession for the Church and the world.
The newsletter records preparations for the August 23 celebration, when the monastery expected around 100 guests and pilgrims, including visitors from several states.
Projects included landscaping, improvements to prayer gardens and outdoor gathering spaces, and preparations for guest accommodations. These efforts reflected the community’s desire to welcome visitors with care and Augustinian warmth.
Alongside the practical preparations, this issue highlights hospitality and spiritual accompaniment for men discerning a monastic vocation.
Its reflection returns to St. Augustine’s teaching that our restless hearts find their home in God. Prayer and the generous welcome of others are presented as complementary expressions of that shared search.
